I saw this deer on Saturday and he came within 25 yards of me on several occasions but
never presented a shot. I drew on him once but it didn’t materialize. He finally wondered
off with a smaller buck. I rattled the small buck back but the big one didn’t return.
The next day I got to the blind early and saw him coming from some distance. He made
a half circle checking the wind before coming in. He passed 23 yards in front of me.
When he went behind the brush, I drew. His head stuck out the other side and I knew it
was going to happen. However, when he came out, he didn’t stop. Rather, he turned away
from me as started to walk off. He never stopped, but angled slightly quartering to the
right. The exhilaration was more than I could stand and I threw up a little in my mouth as
I sent the arrow home. The buck ducked slightly from the noise and the arrow struck him
high in the shoulder and DROPPED him on the spot, paralyzing him. I quickly ran
another arrow through the rib cage and climbed down from my hideout. He still required
a finishing shot from a pistol at close range.
